Spain tops European WhatsApp penetration with 70% share

Spaniards are the top users of messaging platform WhatsApp in Europe, with a penetration rate among smartphone owners of 70 percent, according to a study by PwC Strategy reported by Europa Press. Spain came in fourth behind South Africa (78 percent), Singapore (72 percent) and Hong Kong (71 percent) but far ahead European neighbours such as Italy, with a 62 percent penetration rate, the UK (34 percent) and France, where only 6 percent of smartphone owners use the app, according to the study.
