Spanish regulator CNMC has approved new rules designed to ensure that Telefonica's wholesale fibre service allows alternative operators to offer IPTV on a multicast basis, paving the way for 4K as well as SD and HD transmissions. The amendment to the NEBA local wholesale regulation means alternative operators such as Orange, Vodafone and Masmovil can now optimise the transmission of IPTV over the former incumbent's fibre-optic network, above when airing high audience content such as live football games.
