Spain watchdog to probe use of short numbers for information

Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC has launched an investigation into the inadequate use of short numbers for the provision of information services by 13 different companies. Following a number of complaints from consumer associations and telecoms operators, the regulator said it would be probing the use of twelve five-digit numbers beginning with 118, plus the number 1815 by the companies involved. Failure to comply with the conditions determining the assignation of a short number for the provision of telephone inquiry services is considered a serious offence under the Spanish telecoms act.
