German builder Hochtief, controlled by Spain's ACS, has announced a EUR 17.1 million counterbid for Spanish construction company Abertis, which controls around 91 percent of Spanish satellite operator Hispasat. The new offer comes after Italian infrastructure giant Atlantia formally launched a cash-and-share offer for Abertis that values the company at around EUR 16.3 billion. Abertis' board subsequently issued a statement announcing that it viewed positively Atlantia's offer from an industrial standpoint but thought the price could be improved.
