Spain's CNMC to maintain wholesale fixed line obligations

Spanish communications and competition regulator CNMC has opened a two-month public consultation into its proposal to maintain the obligation on Telefonica to give rival operators wholesale access to its fixed line network. The watchdog said an analysis of the market revealed that the former incumbent retained significant market power and it wanted to ensure alternative operators had easy access to fixed telephony networks to protect the 6.4 million users in Spain who still don't have landline calls bundled with broadband plans.
