Spain's MasMovil triples FY revenues

Spanish telecommunications provider MasMovil has announced its first results since acquiring the operators Yoigo and Pepephone last year, posting full-year 2016 net revenues of EUR 401.0 million, compared to EUR 130.2 million in 2015. Full-year recurring EBITDA came to EUR 31.3 million on a reported basis compared to EUR 10.9 million year ago, with the company also reporting a net loss of EUR 58.1 million for the year compared to a EUR 1.5 million a year earlier, mostly attributed to EUR 101 million of capex focused on the continued rollout of its 4G and fibre networks.

The acquisition of Pepephone and above all Yoigo saw MasMovil increase its mobile customer base to 4.4 million at the end of December, around 4 percent more than the total posted by the three operators at the end of 2015. MasMovil was keen to stress that its postpaid mobile customer base rose by 370,000 or 12 percent year on year to 3.34 million at the end of 2016, meaning some 78 percent of its clients were now on contracts. In fact, the group led Spain’s net portability ranking in two quarters last year.

Looking ahead, MasMovil said it hoped to continue consolidating its position as Spain’s fourth operator thanks to its new national roaming agreements with Orange and Telefonica, allowing the group to extend its fibre-optic footprint to around 10 million homes by the end of 2017. It added that it expected service revenues to grow by over 10 percent year on year in 2017, while proforma recurring EBTIDA was expected to grow by around 70 percent year on year to EUR 200 million.
