Spaniards are Europe's heaviest users of Whatsapp - study

Over half of Spanish smartphone owners (51.5 percent) use an instant messaging app such as Whatsapp and Line on a daily basis, according to a study on OTT services conducted by Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC. In fact, around 83 percent of smartphone owners use Whatsapp and other instant messaging apps at least once a week, far more than in other European countries such as the Netherlands (67 percent), Germany (43 percent), Portugal (34 percent), UK (30 percent), Belgium (20 percent) and France (15 percent). The inevitable result of the surge in mobile messaging has been a sharp decline in
