Spanish court blocks Telefonica's caller ID charge

Friday 3 February 2017 | 09:23 CET | News
Spain's Supreme Court has ruled that Telefonica's decision to start charging for its caller ID service is null and void, upholding an earlier ruling issued by the Provincial Court of Cantabria back in March 2014, reports Efe. Telefonica began charging a caller ID fee of EUR 0.58 month back in 2008 after offering the service for free since 2000. The court deemed Telefonica's actions unfair on the grounds that the company unlawfully charged consumers for an additional service they had not requested or accepted rather than modifying an existing service.
