Spanish mobile broadband lines reached a total of 39.78 million in February, up 6.3 percent year on year and equivalent to 89.3 lines per 100 inhabitants, according to the latest data from telecom regulator CNMC. However, a 125,286 monthly rise in postpay connections was unable to offset a 169,076 fall in prepay lines, meaning there were 43,790 fewer active lines in February. The overall mobile penetration rate increased by 1 percentage point year on year to 110.1 lines per 100 inhabitants.

In total, some 482,207 lines were ported in February, 2.5 percent more than a year earlier. MasMovil led the monthly figures, increasing by 193,570 lines thanks in part to its acquisition of MVNO LlamaYa. Movistar also achieved a net gain from porting of 6,280, while Vodafone and Orange posted a net loss of -26,500 and 900 respectively. The country’s MVNOs fared even worse, shedding some 216,240 lines through porting in February.
