Spanish mobile lines up for first time in 6 mths in April
The number of Spanish mobile lines grew by 29,129 in April from March, the first increase in six months, as postpaid recruitments offset the decline in prepaid connections. Only MVNOs made net gains in April, adding 218,680 lines to capture a market share of 17.14 percent, according to data from regulator CNMC.

 

The postpaid segment increased by 127,419 lines in April, up 4.4 percent from a year earlier, while prepaid lines fell by 98,290, down 9.5 percent from April 2014. The total number of mobile lines was 50.37 million, up 0.2 percent from a year earlier. Mobile penetration was 108.5 per 100 inhabitants, up from 108.1 a year earlier.

There was a net decrease in April in the number of lines supplied by all four national operators. Movistar lost 73,320 lines from the previous month, leaving it with a market share of 31.44 percent. Vodafone lost 72,560 with a market share of 21.8 percent, Orange lost 30,830 with a market share of 22.89 percent, and Yoigo lost 12,840 with a market share of 6.73 percent.

Porting of mobile lines declined to 498,992, down 9.3 percent from a year ago. Movistar and Vodafone were the principal losers, shedding 63.158 and 34,372 on a net basis respectively, while Yoigo and Orange both added around 10,000 lines. MVNOs saw net additions of 76,537 through porting.
