Spanish Supreme Court annuls EUR 26 mln Telefonica fine

Spain's Supreme Court has upheld an earlier decision of the country's National High Court to annul a EUR 25.78 million fine imposed on Telefonica by regulator CNMC back in 2014 for restrictive practices that it said limited the ability of the company's business customers to switch operators and change contracts. The watchdog accused the operator at the time of including permanence clauses in its SME contracts that were automatically renewed and penalties that became increasingly higher as contract expiry date approached, a practice it described as anti-competitive.
