Spanish union criticises wholesale fibre proposal

Spanish trade union UGT (General Union of Workers) has once again sided with Telefonica in the row over the proposal of Spain's communications regulator CNMC to open up Telefonica's fibre network to its rivals. The UGT rejected the CNMC's proposal to require Telefonica to provide wholesale access to its network in all of Spain apart from 34 towns and cities on the grounds that it failed to take into account the negative effect on jobs, not least within Telefonica itself. The former incumbent operator has reiterated its threat to halt the accelerated rollout of its Spanish fibre optic
