Spanish union says fibre regulation will leave 4 mln offline

Spanish trade union UGT (General Union of Workers) has warned that over four million Spaniards could end up with a non-existent or "slow and unstable" internet connection as a result of the new regulations governing the country's wholesale fixed broadband market introduced a month ago by communications regulator CNMC. According to the UGT, the plan to require Telefonica to provide wholesale access to its fibre-optic network in all of Spain apart from 66 cities will only serve to increase the digital divide, creating technologically backward regions. The trade union added that inefficient
