Communications and network service provider SpeedCast International has teamed up with recently-acquired government satellite communications company UltiSat to support emergency response and disaster recovery efforts in Puerto Rico following recent hurricanes. In a statement, SpeedCast and UltiSat announced a donation of quick-deploy satellite terminals and satellite communications services to the area to aid in relief efforts. The aim is to help mission first responders and humanitarian organisations on the ground working to provide support to victims and businesses in need, said the companies.

Over 95 percent of Puerto Rico’s mobile base stations were knocked out by September's hurricane Maria, the first Category 4 storm to strike the island directly since 1932.
