ONF announced the launch of Open Mobile Evolved Core (OMEC), an open source Mobile Core platform developed through its CORD project. The project is intended to become an open-source, production-grade Evolved Packet Core (EPC), using an NFV (Network Function Virtualization) architecture optimized for Intel platforms and tested for scale. Sprint is the first to test the system, which will be demonstrated at MWC later this month.
