STC tests 5G mmWave connection with 800 MHz of bandwidth

Saudi operator STC said it has successfully demonstrated 5G New Radio (NR) with eight-carrier aggregation using Nokia advanced mmWave technology and a single Qualcomm 5G chipset. The company established the 5G non-standalone data call by aggregating 8CC x100MHz on mmWave spectrum in the 26 GHz band in live network conditions in Makkah City.

According to STC, mmWave spectrum can provide numerous high-capacity, low-latency 5G applications that will fuel economic growth and societal benefits in the kingdom and around the world. Moreover, 5G NR mmWave will support new and enhanced mobile experiences with fibre-like data speeds. It is a key spectrum for future 5G densification to address the capacity demand in hotspots and mass event areas.

Saudi operator STC announced the deployment of its 5G network in over 47 cities around the country as part of its plan to strengthen its leadership in reliable mobile coverage and deploy the largest 5G network in the Middle East. According to STC, this phase expands the 5G network in Saudi Arabia to over 71 cities across the country.

STC claims MENA's first ORAN on live network

Saudi operator STC, in collaboration with partners STC Solutions and Altiostar, said it became the first operator in the MENA region to run live ORAN sessions. STC used Altiostar Open vRAN software for the test. ORAN will enable STC to provide the foundation for next-generation wireless networks, the operator said.

STC demonstrates FDD/TDD carrier aggregation with Ericsson Spectrum Sharing

Saudi operator STC said it has successfully demonstrated new radio (NR) time division duplex (TDD) and frequency division duplex (FDD) carrier aggregation (CA) using Ericsson Spectrum Sharing (ESS) in FDD band and on a single MediaTek Dimensity 5G chipset. It established a 5G non-standalone (NSA) data call by aggregating 20MHz on FDD spectrum (shared with LTE using ESS) and 100 MHz on TDD spectrum in live network conditions in Riyadh.

CITC says STC has fastest mobile internet speed in Saudi Arabia in Q3

Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has released a report on internet speeds in the third quarter, which shows that  Saudi Telecom (STC) came first for average mobile download speed at 78.17 Mbps, Argaam reported. Mobily and Zain came in the second and third places with 67.71 Mbps and 61.58 Mbps respectively. Zain KSA led for fixed mobile internet average download speed at 110.88 Mbps, followed by Integrated Telecom with 84.79 Mbps and Mobily with 76.68 Mbps.

STC expands 5G network by 130% for G20 summit

Saudi operator STC Group said it expanded the 5G network by 130 percent to accommodate the increase in digital services during the G20 summit. It also provided its infrastructure for the largest optic fibre network in the region, facilities for big data centres around the country and its international gateways, expanding them over 50 percent to exceed 8 Tbps via three stations connected to more than four submarine cables using GeoMesh technology.

Nokia supports STC technology innovation centre in Riyadh

Nokia and STC have announced a collaboration to operate STC's Technology Innovation Centre in Riyadh. Under the five-year project, Nokia will carry out several programmes to help STC develop at least four new applications every year to support STC's business goals. Nokia will also support STC to create use cases for upcoming technologies.
