Streaming overtakes physical music sales in Netherlands

Streaming over took physical sales in the Dutch music market for the first time in 2016, according to figures from industry group NVPI. Streaming revenues rose by 38.2 percent to EUR 84.7 million last year, accounting for 90.5 percent of all digital sales. Sales of physical music fell by 5.4 percent to EUR 61.2 percent, despite a 49.4 percent increase in the vinyl market. Total music sales in the Netherlands reached EUR 154.8 million in 2016, a 13.1 percent increase from the year before.
