Streaming platforms account for two-thirds of US music revenue

US music industry revenues rose significantly for the second consecutive year to USD 8.7 billion in 2017, up 17 percent on the 2016 result, thanks mostly to the contribution of streaming services, according the annual report from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Streaming music platforms including the premium subscription services of Spotify, Amazon, Tidal, Pandora and Apple Music as well as the on-demand streaming services like YouTube and Vevo accounted for nearly two-thirds (65%) of total industry revenues.
