Streaming video eats up 78% of US smartphone data - study

Streaming video alone accounts for 78 percent of the total data used by smartphone owners in the US, according to a new study by the NPD Group. streaming video apps like YouTube and Netflix drive the greatest data demands, with YouTube the top ranking video app for both iOS and Android users, with 45 percent of smartphone users accessing the app on a monthly basis. Netflix has the second highest usage rate with 18 percent of users launching the app monthly.
