Strict radiation limits pose challenge for 5G network construction in Switzerland

Tuesday 12 February 2019 | 12:24 CET | News
Across Switzerland, a substantial number of new mobile antennae may be added soon, reports NZZ in its Sunday edition. The construction of 5G networks may result in more antennae or more radiation, or both. According to Christian Grasser, CEO of the industry association Asut, around two thirds of the antennae do not have enough spare capacity, and especially in urban areas, 90 percent of their capacity is used. It thus approaches the strict non-ionising radiation limits valid in Switzerland and as a result, more antennae locations will be necessary to build 5G networks.
