Sumitomo Electric to make 5G chips in the US from September - report

Japanese chipmaker Sumitomo Electric Industries will from September start making semiconductors for 5G base stations in the US. Nikkei reported the company will be doubling its supply capacity within its US operations, amid growing concerns about the global chip shortage. The Nikkei notes Sumitomo holds a 70 percent share of the 5G chip market and is a major supplier to China's Huawei.
