Sunrise, SFN announce fibre-optic network partnership
Swiss operator Sunrise and Swiss Fibre Net (SFN), JV between local energy companies, have agreed a fibre-optic network co-operation. The partnership covers the joint development of alternative fibre-optic network (FTTH) services for the Swiss market. SFN will standardise and harmonise the services of its local fibre-optic providers for Sunrise. For this purpose, a new central ordering, delivery and filtering platform called ALEX will be established, giving Sunrise central access to fibre-optic connections of SFN members. The first phase of their strategic alliance will include the joint roll-out of a regional FTTH network infrastructure.

Sunrise launches commercial LTE services

Swiss operator Sunrise has announced the launch of LTE mobile broadband services, supporting data speeds of up to 100 Mbps. All Sunrise customers can access the service using a 4G-enabled smartphone, surf stick or notebook. The network covers more than 22 percent of Sunrise customers at launch, and will be expanded to cover 50 percent by end-October. Swisscom, GA Weissenstein sign fibre network agreement

Swisscom and GA Weissenstein have signed a co-operation agreement to extend the fibre-optic network to homes and businesses of customers in the municipalities of Solothurn, Biberist, Zuchwil and Langendorf. A total of 22,000 homes and businesses are to be connected to the new network by 2018. UPC Cablecom completes Zurich fibre network roll-out

Swiss cable network operator UPC Cablecom has completed the roll-out of fibre-optic network in the Truellikon district of Zurich, completing the roll-out of the fibre network across the Zurich metropolitan area. As a result, 500,000 households in the city now have access to super-fast broadband speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The construction of the network took around five years and cost more than CHF 400 million, with UPC Cablecom laying more than 1,700 km of fibre-optic cable.

Gossau council aproves fibre network funding

The city council in Gossau has approved city funding of CHF 15.8 million for a new fibre-optic network. The plans will now be put to a public vote in September. The city has signed an agreement with Swisscom to expand the fibre-optic network.

Swisscom, TRN to build fibre network in Nyon

Swisscom and Telereseau de la Region Nyonnaise (TRN) have reached an agreement for deployment of a fibre-optic network in the town of Nyon. They are due to sign a Letter of Intent on 07 May, agreeing to pursue a financial, legal and technical framework in their negotiations with a view to investing jointly in a Fibre to the Home (FTTH) fibre-optic network infrastructure.
