Sunrise to launch two 5G smartphones on 02 May

Swiss operator Sunrise will launch two 5G smartphones from 02 May, namely the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G and Huawei Mate 20 X (5G). Sunrise has launched the first 5G network in Switzerland. The first selected customers have been using the Sunrise Internet Box 5G for 5G high-bandwidth Internet at their home or place of work since the beginning of April. Now Sunrise is the first operator to launch two 5G smartphones, in a world premiere.

Customers can order both 5G smartphones on the Sunrise website and in all Sunrise shops. The Huawei Mate 20 X (5G) costs CHF 997 whilst the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G costs CHF 847.

Sunrise Freedom mobile subscription customers (and Sunrise Freedom Young) with unlimited data volume can benefit from the latest mobile generation with the Sunrise 5G option for CHF 10 per month.

Huawei is launching its Huawei Mate 20 X (5G) with Sunrise in Switzerland, as one of the first countries worldwide to get it.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G is the next generation variant of its LTE model launched in October 2018.

Swisscom has announced the launch of 5G smartphones from May, too.

Swiss Federal Council approves increase in minimum broadband speed to 10 Mbps

The Swiss Federal Council (Bundesrat) has decided that the minimum speed for broadband internet will increase to 10 Mbps from the current 3 Mbps from 01 January 2020. The upload speed will increase from 0.3 Mbps to 1 Mbps.

Sunrise launches 5G fixed-wireless offer for home, office customers

Swiss operator Sunrise has opened up its 5G network to home and office customers. Customers can opt for 5G for their fixed broadband service and also use the mobile network as a replacement for fixed telephony and TV services. Sunrise will offer 5G automatically in areas where the fixed network is slow.

Switzerland sees increasing number of objections to 5G infrastructure

The figure is based on information provided by Swisscom and Sunrise. The Association for Protection Against Radiation has knowledge of over 100 building permission applications in the past three months, almost 90 of them blocked by objections. Resistance to 5G is particularly strong in Romandie.

Finnish operator Elisa has begun accepting reservations for the Huawei Mate 20 X smartphone, which supports 5G. Deliveries will start by the end of July. It comes in Emerald Green and the upfront price is EUR 999.

Xiaomi to start selling Mi Mix 3 5G in Italy and Spain this month

Xiaomi has announced the imminent launch of its first 5G smartphone in Italy and Spain later this month. The Mi Mix 3 5G, unveiled at MWC in Barcelona earlier this year, will be available starting 23 May at a price of EUR 599 in Spain and EUR 699 in Italy for the 6GB+64GB version in sapphire blue. The device uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 chip and X50 5G modem, supporting gigabit speeds on sub 6 GHz spectrum. It also comes with a 3,800mAh battery, a 6.39-inch display, 12MP dual cameras and dual front-facing

Sunrise offers Samsung Galaxy S10 5G in pre-sale

Swiss operator Sunrise is the first operator in Switzerland to offer the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G for pre-order, from 15 May. With all pre-orders the operator will include the 46-mm silver Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE, worth CHF 415.

Swisscom switches on commercial 5G network

Ericsson and Swisscom have switched on what they say is the first large-scale commercial 5G network in Europe to support commercially available smartphones. The network went live in the first minute of 17 April, following Swisscom's securing of a commercial 5G licence. As all the other component parts were already in place, so the license meant the partners simply had to switch the network on.
