Supreme Court denies Google appeal in Oracle copyright case

The US Supreme Court has denied Google's appeal of a key ruling on software copyright in a case against Oracle, the Wall Street Journal reports. In 2010, Oracle alleged Google's Android smartphone operating system infringed copyright on Oracle's Java platform. Oracle won the case in an appeals court ruling in May 2014 that said 37 packages of Java application programming interfaces were entitled to copyright protection. Google had asked the Supreme Court to hear the case and limit how software makers could use copyright law to assert exclusive rights over computer programmes. It argued Oracle
