Surrey's 5G lab achieves 1 Tbps over 100-meter link

Wednesday 25 February 2015 | 10:08 CET | News
The University of Surrey's 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) achieved 1 Tbps speeds in laboratory tests, the fastest to date, the centre's professor Rahim Tafazolli, told V3.co.uk. The tests were carried out over a distance of 100 meters using equipment built at the university and outstrip by far previously announced tests, such as Samsung's 7.5 Gbps results. 5GIC plans to take the technology out of the lab and onto the campus in 2016 or 2017, ahead of public demonstrations in early 2018. The 1 Tbps speed is unlikely to be achievable in real-world environments when 5G starts to become deployed
