Swatch seeks to block use of iWatch, too close to iSwatch

Swiss watchmaker Swatch has taken action to protect its iSwatch brand vis-à-vis Apple's use of the iWatch name because it is too similar to its own, Swatch CEO Nick Hayek told Bloomberg. Swatch has pointed out the use of 'iWatch' to authorities in several dozen countries where it is trade mark registered. Hayek said this was standard procedure and there were no plans to take Apple to court. Apple has not launched a smartwatch yet, nor has it announced any plans to use the name if it does so, but it applied for trademark protection for 'iWatch' in Japan in June 2013.
