Sweden raises SEK 2 billion in 800MHz band auction
Swedish telecommunications regulator PTS annoucned that the auction of 800MHz band spectrum raised a total of SEK 2.054 billion (EUR 233 million), with three existing operators winning spectrum rights. TeliaSonera said it will use the 800MHz blocks won to further expand its 4G network in Sweden. The 25-year licence for 2x10MHz cost the company SEK 854 million. Its acquired frequency blocks are not subject to any conditions related to construction pace or population coverage in Sweden. 3 Sweden received two frequency blocks of 800MHz spectrum for a total SEK 431 million, and Tele2 Sweden won 2x10MHz through the network company Net4Mobility for SEK 769 million. Its frequencies will be used in the roll-out of a 4G network, and SEK 300 million of the purchase price will be used to build 4G coverage to households that lack broadband coverage. The purchase price will be financed equally by Tele2 Sweden and Telenor Sweden, with SEK 469 million paid to the state and SEK 300 million used to build infrastructure in rural areas. Com Hem and Netett Sverige also participated in the auction but did not win any licences.
