Swedish govt cuts digital publishing VAT, more gambling adverts appear on TV

Wednesday 27 February 2019 | 14:55 CET | News
The Swedish government has decided to lower Value Added Tax (VAT) on digital newspapers, magazines and books from 25 percent to 6 percent on 01 July, so that they match the tax rate of their physical counterparts, said consultancy Mediavision. Local media reacted positively to the news, and shares in audiobook streaming service Storytel rose by 6 percent. Digital subscription services such as Readly and Storytel, hope the VAT cut will boost them in the battle for consumers, with 27 percent of Swedish households subscribing to a digital text service currently.
