Swedish road agency plans to allow cables to be laid alongside country roads

Monday 19 November 2018 | 12:29 CET | News
Swedish highways agency Trafikverket is proposing to allow fibre cables to be laid alongside smaller roadways in order to encourage broadband expansion in rural areas, according to metro network association SSNf. It said country roads such as those with only gravel and no asphalt may lack outer cambered edges where Trafikverket would normally permit digging for cables. Allowing excavation closer in, or even along the centre of the road, can risk damage to road and lines alike.
