Swiss court upholds customer data retention regime

A Swiss court has dismissed an appeal challenging legislation that requires telecommunications providers to store citizens' metadata for up to six months. The appeal orginated in a complaint by six citizens in the federal court against the Federal Law on the Monitoring of Postal and Telecommunications Traffic. Under this legislation, telecommunciations providers are required to store metadata of telephone, SMS, email or other communications of Swiss citizens for up to six months.
