Swiss Federal Council wants state, private firms to share E-ID competences

Swiss Federal Council has adopted a resolution on the draft new federal law on electronic identification services (E-ID law, BGEID) and moved it to Parliament. The verification of a person's identity indicators such as name, gender and date of birth, will be conducted exclusively by the state. For this purpose, a special unit at the Federal Justice and Police Department will be established.
