Swiss public broadcaster SRG SSR has announced the launch of the new streaming platform Play Suisse for November. Internally, the project has so far operated under the name Rio. The company has discussed different options for the name of the platform, said Bakel Walden, director of development and offering and head of the SRG Digital Board. With Play Suisse, SGR can further develop a platform that has a connection with its existing digital content. Play Suisse may cooperate with external partners.
The new streaming platform does not replace the players Play RTR, Play RSI, Play RTS, Play SRF and Play SWI, which have a regional focus and provide broadcast content that includes sports and news.
Play Suisse will provide content from all regions and languages in Switzerland. Content will be available in the original language with subtitles in German, French and Italian, and selected titles are also available in Romansh. The service will supply a selection of in-house and co-productions including films, series, documentaries, reports and archive content.
