Swisscable welcomes probe into pay-TV sports market

Swiss cable industry group Swisscable has welcomed a decision by the Federal Competition Competition (Weko) to open an investigation into the broadcast of live sports on live TV. Weko's preliminary investigation found that Teleclub held a market-dominant position in the market for sports content, especially football and ice hockey games, to the detriment of cable networks. Swisscable insists that sports content must now be quickly made available to a wider public.
