Swisscom confirms death of CEO Carsten Schloter
Swisscom has confirmed the death of CEO Carsten Schloter from an apparent suicide. Deputy CEO Urs Schaeppi, Head of Swisscom Switzerland, will take over management of the company on an interim basis. Mario Rossi will assume the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fastweb ad interim and Ueli Dietiker the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swisscom IT Services for the time being. Schloter joined Swisscom in 2000 as head of Swisscom Mobile and was appointed CEO in 2006.

Schloter wanted to leave Swisscom before his death - report

Former Swisscom CEO Carsten Schloter wanted to leave the company before his death because of tensions with chairman Hansueli Loosli, reports Swiss news magazine 'Bilanz'. Schloter is understood to have made contact with at least three headhunters since the spring. The report cites close friends of Schloter describing his relationship with Loosli as a 'war of attrition'.

Swisscom will introduce a new entry-level bundled plan called 'Vivo Casa 1' on 12 August. This will offer internet access at up to 2 Mbps, unlimited calls to all Swiss networks, and the Swisscom TV light plan. Swisscom raises revenue outlook, sees new CEO by year-end

Swisscom reported a small drop in first-half results, but raised its full-year revenue outlook thanks to recent acquisitions. Sales for the first six months of the year dropped 0.4 percent to CHF 5.6 billion, and EBITDA fell 5.5 percent to CHF 2.1 billion. The company blamed the drop on general price erosion in the Swiss market and lower roaming revenue, while growth in customer numbers also increased costs. Swiss operator Sunrise has welcomed a decision by the Federal Competition Commission (Weko) to open an investigation into alleged anti-competitive behaviour by Swisscom. The company said the investigation was a signal for fair competition in the Swiss telecoms market. Swisscom has announced the return of Stefan Nuenlist as Head of Group Communications. In his new role, he will be a Member of the Management Board of Swisscom Switzerland and will take charge of Swisscom's Group Communications in autumn 2013. Swisscom has welcomed a decision by the Competition Commission (Weko) to reject precautionary measures proposed by three cable providers in connection with the investigation into Swisscom and Cinetrade relating to the broadcasting of live sporting events on pay-TV. Swisscom rejects claims by the cable provider that it is unlawfully expanding the range of live sports broadcasts in Switzerland, accusing its rivals of failing to actively promote or expand their own live transmissions of sporting events.

Swisscom Hospitality Services and Scandic Hotels have announced a partnership to deliver next-generation, hotel high-speed internet access. The Swisscom Internet Access gateway has now gone live in 135 Scandic Hotels across four countries. Swisscom has no plans to sell Fastweb

Swisscom has no plans to sell Italian broadband subsidiary Fastweb, according to CEO Carsten Schloter, reports Computerworld.ch. In an interview with 'SonntagsZeitung', Schloter said that it planned to develop Fastweb and its fibre-optic network infrastructure. He added that Swisscom would consider options for market consolidation if they arose, but insisted that it was not ready to sell Fastweb.
