T-Mobile US delays CDMA shutdown after Dish complaint

T-Mobile US has decided to delay the shutdown of its CDMA network by three months, to 31 March 2022. This follows complaints from wholesale customer Dish Network, which said T-Mobile was not allowing enough time to transition customers to alternatives.

T-Mobile wants to shut down the former Sprint network in order to free up frequencies for 5G. However, Dish and others have complained the company is going faster than originally indicated at the time of the merger. In August, Dish filed a complaint to the justice department, saying T-Mobile was not respecting the conditions of the merger clearance.

T-Mobile said some of its partners "haven’t followed through on their responsibility to help their customers through this shift. So, we’re stepping up on their behalf." The extra three months should not have any impact on the 5G expansion nor its financial results, the company added.
