Tamedia names new head of holding as CEO resigns, to restructure group from 2020

Wednesday 12 June 2019 | 10:05 CET | News

Swiss media company Tamedia announced that publisher and board chairman Pietro Supino will be the head of a new holding structure effective from 01 July 2020, after the resignation of its CEO Christoph Tonini on 30 June 2020. Samuel Hugli (Technology & Ventures) and Sandro Macciacchini (Finances & Human Resources) continue to be part of the group's management team.

The board of directors has received Tonini's notice of his intent to leave the post. After seventeen years at Tamedia, Tonini will seek other professional challenges. He joined Tamedia in 2003 as chief financial officer, while being responsible for the divisions Services, Newspapers Switzerland, Media Switzerland as well as Digital & 20 Minuten between 2008 to 2012. In 2013 he was appointed CEO. He has developed a new, decentralised organisational structure together with Supino. The structure will take effect on 01 January 2020 and Tonini will be responsible for its implementation until the end of June 2020.

As part of the restructuring plan, Tamedia has decided to run the four business units of the group separately from 01 January 2020. Each unit will have its own management, board of directors and income statement. Marco Boselli (Publishing) will lead the the Paid Media Division together with Andreas Schaffner (Publishing Services). Marcel Kohler will be the head of Commuter Media, Michi Frank of Advertising Marketing and Christoph Brand of Marketplaces. The composition of the board of directors and the management team of each sub-group will be determined during the second part of this year.
