Tasman subsea cable enters final phase of construction

The Tasman Global Access (TGA) undersea cable is now in the final stages of construction and is expected to be ready for service in early 2017, according to New Zealand operator Spark. It's building the cable in a project with Vodafone and Telstra worth in total USD 70 million. The TGA cable will run 2,300km from Raglan in New Zealand to Narrabeen Beach, just north of Sydney in Australia. To date, the Ile de Re ship has deployed nine out of a total of 20 repeaters on the cable, and last month, the ship completed the shore landing at Narrabeen Beach.
