Tech companies call on US govt to reform surveillance laws

AOL, Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Twitter and Yahoo have sent a joint letter to the US government, calling for it to review surveillance practices and to take the lead on reform. In the open letter, the companies said many governments have gone too far from the rights of the individual in favour of the state. The companies have therefore submitted a set of principles that would see government surveillance efforts clearly restricted by law, proportionate to the risks, transparent and subject to independent oversight.
