Tele2 Austria adds TV services to portfolio
Tele2 Austria adds television services to its portfolio. In cooperation with simpliTV, the operator offers various packages, including nine HD channels and unlimited internet from EUR 17.80 per month. For this monthly price, the broadband speed is 8 Mbps. After the third month, the price will be EUR 26.80. For EUR 24.90 (then EUR 33.90), subscribers get a connection with 20 Mbps, and the fastest connection at 30 Mbps comes for EUR 29.90 (then EUR 38.90). Existing customers can add the TV service to their plan for EUR 10 per month.

HD television continues to gain popularity in Austria. A total 2.26 million of the 3.56 million TV households in Austria (64%) received their programmes in HD in 2014, which constitutes an increase of 16 percent compared to the previous year, according to the recent 'Astra TV monitor' conducted by GfK Austria. Tele2 Austria announced it will start providing mobile services in the second half of 2015. This follows the recent addition of TV services to its portfolio. Tele2 previously operated as a MVNO in Austria, but sold its customer base to Telekom Austria in 2008. Tele2 Austria said it is running a new television and YouTube advertising campaign for broadband with a free WLAN booster to enable customers to go online anywhere in their home, including the garden or bedroom. The new campaign uses another episode featuring Tom the sheep.

Tele2 Austria ends Q2 with 270,000 customers

Tele2 Austria ended Q2 2014 with a total of 270,000 customers, down from 300,000 at end-June. This included 114,000 fixed broadband customers, down from 122,000, and 156,000 fixed telephony customers, down from 178,000. Net sales for the six months were SEK 590 million, down from SEK 624 million a year earlier, with fixed broadband services accounting for SEK 388 million, down from SEK 404 million, and fixed telephony for SEK 83 million, down from SEK 97 million.
