Telecom Agency to ensure retained data deleted

Dutch telecom providers no longer have to save information on customer traffic as required under the data retention law and any existing such information should be destroyed, the economic affairs minister confirmed. He discussed the consequences of the recent court ruling striking down the law in a debate in parliament, also with the new justice minister Ard van der Steur. The Telecom Agency will contact this month the six largest operators, which are responsible for about 98 percent of traffic, to discuss the consequences of the ruling and ensure the data is deleted correctly.
