Telecom Italia Board approves project for network separation

The board of directors of Telecom Italia has approved the corporate reorganisation of its access network. In a statement, the operator said it will give immediate information om the project to the Italian Communications Authority (AgCom), which is responsible for the assessment of the effects on the regulations in force. The new company will merge all the activities and resources related to the development and management of the passive access network, both copper and fibre, as well as the active component of the fibre represented by OLT (Optical Line Termination) and cabinets.

The new entity will ensure that all operators, both alternative ones and Telecom Italia, will get access to the fixed network, applying the model of equal treatment known as 'Equivalence of Input'. The services offered by the new company to all operators will include Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) and Virtual Unbundled Local Access (Vula) for NGN based on FTTH and FTTCab architectures.
