Telefonica against Telecom Italia network spin-off
Telefonica is likely to vote against the spin-off of Telecom Italia's fixed access network during the 30 May meeting of the board of directors of Telecom Italia, writes daily Il Sole 24 Ore. If the plan is approved, it will have to be examined by Italy's Communications Authority and could take eighteen months to implement. The value of the assets would be established at the end of the process, as its value depends on the regulations and tariff remuneration to be agreed. The maximum value could reach EUR 13-16 billion, according to the paper.

Telecom Italia has ruled out a sale of its Brazilian operations, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. A sale may become an issue if Telefonica becomes the largest shareholder in the Italian operator, as Telefonica already owns the largest operator in Brazil, Vivo. Telecom Italia sees more potential investors for network

Telecom Italia believes there are more potential investors on the market, 'including foreign ones', for the company's fixed line network. Telecom Italia managers are planning to invest EUR 10 billion to upgrade its fixed-network unit with fibre-optic technology, two people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg news agency. The investment, to be made over a 10-year period, will help network unit Opac to provide faster internet access and services including HD video.
