Telecom Italia poised to name Genish as new CEO - report

Telecom Italia (TIM) is set to appoint Amos Genish as its new Chief Executive Officer to replace Flavio Cattaneo, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters. Genish was named general manager for operations at TIM at the end of July after the operator parted ways with former CEO Flavio Cattaneo following clashes with its top shareholder Vivendi. A former Israeli army captain, Genish previously headed Vivo, the Brazilian unit of Spain’s Telefonica, and was subsequently named Vivendi’s chief convergence officer.

Previous chief executive Flavio Cattaneo left TIM in July after just 16 months in the post, with Vivendi CEO and new TIM chairman Arnaud de Puyfontaine temporarily taking over most of Cattaneo’s responsibilities. De Puyfontaine is set retain his position as TIM’s chairman, said two of the sources, with another source adding that TIM’s deputy chairman Giuseppe Recchi could also retain his post and remain responsible for international wholesale unit Sparkle.

The report said the new appointment would likely be made official before the end of the week, with the Italian government officials also set to meet to discuss whether to fine Vivendi for failing to notify Rome of its effective control of TIM.
