Telecom Italia to expand fibre service to Montemurlo

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced plans to install a new fibre-optic network in the town of Montemurlo in northern Tuscany. The operator will connect 45 street cabinets to bring broadband at speeds of up to 100 Mbps to over 13,000 inhabitants, equivalent to 95 percent of the local population, by the end of the year. The company recently announced that it expects to increase total fibre customers to 5 million by 2018, equivalent to 40 percent of its broadband base.
