Telefonica adds biometric technologies to security portfolio
Telefonica has announced the integration of the SmartID and SealSign tools of Spanish security company SmartAccess into its security portfolio. The tools protect digital identity and business processes using biometric authentication and digital signature technology, said Telefonica. SmartID allows for more secure user authentication when accessing applications and physical equipment by combining different elements such as smart cards, RFID/NFC devices and biometric fingerprint recognition. SealSign. Meanwhile, is an electronic document-signing platform for companies, compatible with digital certificates, biometric systems, One-time Password (OTP) systems and the long-term storage of signed documents. The service is based on behavioural biometry, such as a user’s voice or signature.

Both SmartID and SealSign now form part of the secure digital ecosystem developed by Telefonica and its cybersecurity subsidiary, ElevenPaths. The tools will be presented at MWC in Barcelona from 02-05 March with visitors challenged to forge the signature of a well-known personality to showcase the accuracy of SealSign's biometric signature technology.
