Telefonica CEO calls for bold new regulatory framework

The incoming EU parliament and new Commission president as well as newly-elected national governments in the EU should make the creation of a level playing field in the telecommunications sector their number one priority, according to Telefonica's chairman and chief executive officer Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete. In a speech made at the start of MWC 2019 in Barcelona, the CEO called for a "refreshed and bold regulatory framework" ahead of the deployment of 5G networks that will require heavy investment from telecommunications companies all over the continent.
