Telefonica CEO calls for progress in deregulation of telecoms sector

Europe needs to review its traditional regulation to deal with the coming 5G revolution, according to Telefonica's chairman and chief executive officer Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete. "We need the support of the regulators… because 5G is not an evolution, but a revolution," he said during a debate organised by the Centre for Regulation in Europe (CERRE) that also saw the participation of Vodafone CEO Nick Read and Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon.
