Telefonica, Ericsson in world first 5G remote driving demo

Telefonica and Ericsson have conducted the world's first live demonstration of remote driving using 5G networks. The test was conducted during the Mobile World Congress, with the driver located at the Fira exhibition centre in Barcelona remotely controlling a car around obstacles on a test track in Tarragona, some 70 kilometres away. The companies worked in partnership with Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology KTH and vehicle safety testing company Idiada on the demo. In a statement, Telefonica said it used a network supported by high-frequency spectrum (15GHz), with ultra-narrow beams
