Telefonica Germany said it has signed partnership agreements with Amazon Web Services and Ericsson to shift its 5G core network to the cloud. Ericsson offers its cloud-native software architecture as a link to the AWS cloud. Telefonica will be able to integrate new 5G industry applications into its network in order to offer them to customers with the 5G cloud.
With the cloud-based 5G network, companies can stop relying on physical core network infrastructure in the future at their logistics and production sites, for example. Telefonica will use AWS to carry out the so-called virtualization of its core network. It will start the process with AWS and Ericsson this month, investing a double-digit amount. The data of Telefonica Germany and its O2 brand remains on AWS servers in Germany under the agreement.
