Telefonica Germany has signed contracts with Tech Mahindra and Wipro to upgrade its IT systems. This follows the operator's announcement in January that it plans to overhaul its IT architecture and reduce the number of suppliers.
The multi-year contract with Tech Mahindra will provide Telefonica with Out of the Box (OOTB) process libraries and capabilities across Business Support Systems (BSS), customer experience, cloud, data and analytics, and AI. Under the agreement, Tech Mahindra will upgrade existing stacks based on cloud-native products to accelerate Telefonica's digital transformation.
Telefonica Germany last year signed a strategic partnership with Tech Mahindra to explore the use of 5G, AI and machine learning.
The five-year deal with Wipro also covers BSS improvements, as well as related customer and quality assurance systems in the B2B market. Wipro said it is providing a 'Radical IT Transformation' (RAITT) to ensure that Telefonica Germany/O2 is well-positioned to launch new offerings including 5G products and services, while also significantly lowering the operator's cost of ownership. In a first for the IT supplier in the telecom market, Wipro will develop a business support platform for Telefonica, building on the companies' 15-year working relationship.
